EN standards

The standards are defined in Published Document (PD) 6662, which is the UK adoption of European Norm (EN) 50131 to 7 series.

The EN standard was prepared by the CENELEC Technical Committee TC 79, Alarm Systems. This standard covers all parts of the Intruder and Hold-up Alarm System (I&HS) - of which the Alarm Transmission System (ATS) is one element - defined mainly within EN50131-6.

The standards define a system of grading risk for systems from 1 to 4.

Additional applicable standards include:

BS8418 - CCTV installation standard, WebWay 2424 meets BS8418

CFOA - Chief Fire Offices Association, WebWay 2424 meets the requirements for monitored fire systems.

ABI The ABI is the Association of British Insurers. Dependent on the risk of the property the insurance industry may ask that some properties carry a risk of x, but require a component of the system to comply to a higher Grade - this often applies to signalling systems.
ACPO ACPO is the Association of Chief Police Officers. The Police have a requirement for “confirmed” alarms, or “sequential” alarms. More on the subject of achieving “confirmed”/ “sequential” alarms later.
PD6662 Published Document 6662, the UK's enabling document for EN50131 series.
Line monitoring The ability to determine when a signalling path has failed.
Upload/download The ability to update an alarm panel from a remote location.
